The Deep Pour Epoxy For Large Castings, Slab Pours, and Flower Preservation
TotalBoat Fathom is simply the best and deepest deep pour resin kit for thick pour applications – pour single layers up to 3″ deep in prepared molds. Pour live edge slabs and river tables up to 2″ deep per layer. The thicker layer is possible because of the low amount of heat Fathom generates and the extremely slow cure time. But the beautiful results will be worth the wait! Especially with projects created using step pours, because each layer of epoxy will meld seamlessly to produce a final piece that’s completely clear, without visible lines or cloudiness.
Extra long working time is ideal for large or complex epoxy pours
Once you mix Fathom’s resin and hardener components, you have anywhere from 4-6 hours to pour the crystal-clear formula. This extended working time allows you to easily pour, embed objects, pop any trapped air bubbles, and make other adjustments as needed without the stress of racing against the clock. Ideal for art projects, preserving flowers and mementos, and woodworking projects where aesthetics and control over the process matter.
The working time depends on the volume of mixed epoxy you’re using, as well as the temperature of the air in your workspace – the ideal application temperature range is 60-80°F.
Use tints to change Fathom from clear to any color you want
Fathom is crystal-clear right out of the bottle, with a minimal blue tint to prevent yellowing, but you can easily personalize this clear liquid with mica powder, alcohol ink pigments, universal tints, and opaque pigment dispersions. Just mix the resin and hardener first, then mix in your epoxy-safe colorants.

Step Pouring Fathom
For best results when applying additional layers of Fathom after the first pour, it’s important to note the following:
When your project involves pouring multiple layers of Fathom, it is extremely important to wait until the previous layer has cooled sufficiently, to prevent surface distortion, yellowing, or other negative effects of excessive heat while the epoxy is curing.
Conservatively, the safest interval to wait is a minimum of 36 hours for Fathom to cure before applying more, regardless of pour depth and ambient temperature.
For applications when it’s important to have the shortest interval for multiple pours, wait at least 24 hours, then use an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature at the center of the epoxy mass, where the highest temperature will be recorded.
Wait until the previous layer has dropped below 85°F, and the previous epoxy pour has firmed up enough that it will not distort when liquid epoxy is poured on it.
Always follow the maximum pour depth based on the volume of Fathom. Once all layers are complete, the epoxy resin will be fully cured in 5-7 days.
Should I use TotalBoat ThickSet or Fathom epoxy for my project – what’s the difference?
TotalBoat ThickSet and Fathom epoxies are both deep epoxies. But, if you are pouring deeper than an inch per layer, you want Fathom!

Seal Coat Application: Brush. When applying to wood or porous surfaces, be sure to apply a very thin skim coat of epoxy to seal the surface, and allow it to cure before applying more epoxy.

IMPORTANT: Environmental conditions are extremely important to the clarity and quality of the cure. Depending on the mass of mixed epoxy used in a single pour, the pour depth, and the ambient temperature, excessive heat may build up from the reaction, causing potential yellowing, cracks, or other shrinkage. Helping to dissipate the heat may help promote the best results. For the epoxy to cure fully, the ambient temperature must be between 60°F and 80°F. When pouring for larger projects, such as slabs or tables, do not exceed a pour depth of 2" to prevent yellowing or excessive heat from the cure.

What type of applications are best for TotalBoat Fathom Epoxy?
Fathom is ideal for live edge tables, deep channels on tables and large cast projects or molds.
What is the maximum pour depth for TotalBoat Fathom Epoxy?
The maximum pour depth using less than 1 gallon of epoxy is 3" per single layer; for slabs and tables, the maximum depth is 2". For best results, do not use Fathom for pours less than 1″ deep as doing so will extend the required cure time.
What is the recommended pour depth for slab pours and river tables when using TotalBoat Fathom Epoxy?
For tables, slabs and other large pours, do not exceed a depth of 2" per layer to prevent yellowing, cracking or shrinkage. When the desired thickness is greater than 2", step pouring this deep pour resin with multiple layers will achieve the best results. When doing step pours, allow a minimum of 36 hours cure time before applying another layer of Fathom.
What are the recommended application temperatures for pouring TotalBoat Fathom Epoxy?
When doing thicker pours (any smaller castings up to 3", or larger slab pours up to 2"), it is strongly recommended to maintain 75°F or lower. For thinner pours (smaller castings under 1-½" or slab pours under 1"), it is recommended to use the product between 70-80°F. To help speed up the cure for all applications, you can increase the heat after the reaction reaches peak exotherm – up to 90°F.
Is TotalBoat Fathom Epoxy food safe?
Yes. Once the Fathom Epoxy surface has cured completely, it is BPA-free, making it safer for potential contact with food. Be careful of any product described as food grade epoxy resin! Virtually no epoxy kit on the market meets such certification.
Is Fathom Epoxy UV resistant?
TotalBoat Fathom cures to a crystal clear finish that won’t yellow, but is not meant for continuous UV exposure. If your cured piece will be used outdoors, apply a UV-stable varnish or clear coat product, for maximum UV resistance and to avoid cloudiness or yellowing.
Can I tint Fathom?
Fathom can be tinted with a variety of epoxy-safe coloring agents, including mica powder, universal tints, pigment dispersions, and alcohol ink pigments. Mix the epoxy resin and hardener together thoroughly before adding tints.
How long does Fathom take to cure?
The full cure time for Fathom is 5-10 days, depending on the mass of mixed epoxy.
How soon can I demold castings made with Fathom?
The minimum demold time for deeper or larger pours is 48 hours, and 72 hours for smaller pours. If the epoxy feels soft or rubbery at all, it is extremely important not to demold yet.
Can cured Fathom be turned on a lathe?
TotalBoat Fathom can be machined or turned once it has cured completely (5-7 days at room temperature), and has developed its thermal properties and achieved full hardness. For best results, we recommend that you do a test before attempting it on your final project. Can I use TotalBoat 2:1 Epoxy pumps to measure Fathom by volume?
