In the backyard boatshop where the Atkins ketch, Arabella, is being built the team is working to finish the mizzen mast. They’ve removed some questionable knots and imperfections in their mast, and they replace them by using Thixo Flex and epoxy to glue in new pieces of wood that will strengthen the mast. They take the big, nerve wracking step of cutting the mast step area from the round shape to a square that will fit below deck. Planking is nearing the end, the spars are shaping up nicely – literally – and progress is constant above and below where the decks will go. The shutter plank is coming up soon and with extra hands around Arabella is looking more and more seaworthy as the progress is more and more notable. Tune in for today’s video of the Week with Acorn to Arabella.
