Acorn to Arabella: Galley Counter Build

Progress is visible down below on the Atkins Ketch build by Acorn to Arabella. With galley drawers being built and varnished with our thinned TotalBoat Wood Sealer Varnish Primer, it’s time to consider the countertop that will be an important part of their interior. Months ago, locust pieces were cut into squares and glued together using a thin coat of High Performance Epoxy Resin. A second bonding coat is thickened with sawdust from the band saw and that will fill gaps and provide a smooth, easy surface for sanding once the glue-up is completed. Bulkheads are going in, the Shipmate wood stove has been placed for the best heating position to warm the cabin and there is even a workbench below deck for projects that will keep appearing once Arabella is underway.

Tune in for today’s video of the week with Steve and then go watch the Live they shared this morning from the Annapolis Boat Show where Steve and Annie met with Chesapeake Light Craft’s owner, Jon Harris. CLC sells kits for dinghies, kayaks, and sailboats (and more) and John is talking to Steve about the different options for building the Arabella tender. There is always something to learn when you tune in for an Acorn to Arabella video, so subscribe and enjoy the journey of this amazing wooden boat build. Thanks for watching!
