JD Select is a water-based bottom paint, with a forgiving formula that applies smoothly and is easy to clean up using soap and water. An eco-friendly alternative to conventional solvent-based paints, JD Select features a medium copper load to help keep barnacles, slime, and algae at bay in lfresh and salt water. Ideal for marinas and boatyards with VOC restrictions.

This ablative bottom paint wears away evenly for consistent biocide release while minimizing paint buildup. Designed for boats that stay in the water throughout the season, it’s a great choice for powerboats and sailboats in light-to-moderate fouling conditions.

Whether you're painting your own boat or a professional working in a boatyard, JD Select delivers smooth, uniform finishes on properly prepared fiberglass, wood, and primed steel boat hulls. Use a 3/16" nap roller for even coverage and a foam or chip brush for detail work, or spray with conventional or airless equipment on larger surfaces. Because this bottom paint is water-based, it flows smoothly after stirring, but can be thinned with 5-10% water as needed for your painting conditions. Once the job is done, use soap and water to clean up without harsh solvents.

PAINT AND LAUNCH THE SAME WEEKEND 

Depending on the temperature, JD Select dries in 1.5-6 hours so you can paint in one weekend. For best results, work in 50-90°F temps with <90% humidity. Dry time to launch ranges from 6-16 hours, so let cure overnight after you've applied your final coat.

Not ready to go into the water? Unlike hard antifouling paints, the biocide remains active with no max dry time window, offering more flexibility around prep and paint schedules during spring maintenance.
