Nick Dana is a record smashing professional sailor. He has been a part of three Volvo Ocean Races – as shore crew initially and then as on-board reporter and most recently as bowman on the under-30 entry in the 114-15 race aboard Alvimedica. He has been racing sailboats for all of his adult life and was raised on or around the water for his whole life.Nick is a waterman who also loves surfing and surf-seeking on his refurbished lobster boat, Goose. His love for lobster boats extended into his down time this past winter when he took on the full restoration of “Smokey Girl,” A Holland 32 lobster boat. The boat has been redone from stem to stern and was a fun, but intense project for Nick who worked on her between regattas. His family’s shipyard in Newport, Newport Shipyard, is a great resource for all boating needs, but it’s a perfect spot for a refit like Smokey Girl and Nick took full advantage of the shop set up for his project.
NICK & TOTALBOAT…
Nick dove into the guts of his Holland 32 restoration and was deep in epoxy, paint chips and bronze pieces. Nick particularly likes TotalBoat’s Thixo Flex for the clean and simple application and flexible tensile strength properties.
