Creating an Epoxy Resin Petri Dish with Jessie Jewels Art

We invited local resin artist Jessie Jewels to come into our new Narwhal Labs Makerspace and share her craft with us. Jessie is a teacher who has a classroom in Warwick, RI where she holds classes and has a studio. She joined us in the Lab to make some epoxy Petri dishes, which are basically discs of cured, colored Table Top Epoxy resin that make great suncatchers, ornaments, or coasters, even.  Jessie shared a few tips with us on how to achieve some fun effects with the epoxy and we had a blast learning one of her many art forms.

Jessie has many talents, but we’ll start with her resin art. She’s found herself with a hungry audience in little Rhody, where she sets up at art fairs and trunk shows and finds happy shoppers and future resinistas, too. She does great work with local mediums like sand and shells on forgotten window panes, making great window treatments (when treated with some extra UV love, like Halcyon Clear Varnish) and fun art classes.

You’ll discover in some coming videos we made with Jessie, that she’s also mastered using dried flowers in resin which is a popular way to preserve important bouquets or favorite flowers.  She’s happy to demonstrate and share these cool techniques with us both in a few TotalBoat Tips videos, through her teachings, and she’s even started her own YouTube Channel (help her out by subscribing)! where Jessie Jewels Art can expand beyond even Instagram and into the farther reaches of the internet and its love for epoxy art!

Do check our Jessie’s Instagram page where she shows off some of her many other talents, among them: Certified Yoga Instructor, hula hooper, fire dancer, mermaid and kayaker! (We of course have to love those who love the ocean). And if you’re local to the Providence, RI area, look up Jessie on her webpage or Instagram to see if there’s a class for you coming soon. She’s even been doing some Virtual Art Shows and local Farmers Markets where the fresh air and sunshine makes all of Jessie’s art a jewel.

Enjoy one of the videos we made in Narwhal Labs with Jessie and subscribe to TotalBoat on YouTube for more every week – including a few more with Jessie already on the schedule.
